Attempting to find beauty in disaster and tragedy, Meltdown Lamp by Johan Lindstén, inspired by the events in Fukushima, portrays nuclear meltdown in blown glass, as the bulb melts its way through the last defence.
Swedish designer Johan Lindstén has developed the Meltdown pendant for Cappellini. An interpretation and a rather successful one at that to make something gorgeous from the disastrous nuclear accident in Fukushima, Johan’s Meltdown allows us to contemplate the occurrence of a meltdown and it’s probably impact. For this pendant the disaster is reflected in the lamps where the process already begun and the bulb are about to melt through the last defense of the glass.
In amber, tobacco, grey, rose, tobacco, light blue, and amethyst. Designed for Cappellini, revealed at Salone Satellite 2012, and available in January.
