In the lexicon of interior design there are three types of lighting:  Ambient, task and accent.

Ambient ~ Ambient light means the light that is already present in a scene, before any additional lighting is added. Horse I_005It usually refers to natural light, either outdoors or coming through windows etc. It can also mean artificial lights such as normal room lights.

Task ~ Fixed task lighting refers to a non-movable light source dedicated to lighting a specific task. Horse I_006In kitchens, strip LED lights may be incorporated under cabinets to provide clear lighting onto the counters for cutting and preparing food. In bathrooms we would be talking about lighted medicine cabinets and such.

Accessory ~ Accent lighting focuses light on a particular area or object. Horse I_007It is often used to highlight art or other artifacts. Common types of accent lights include wall sconces, floodlights, recessed lights, torchère lamps, table lamps or track lighting. The brighter light from the accent lamp creates visual interest to a room.

And Cow Goes Moooi

Well, no cow, but who wouldn’t want a life-sized horse to lighten up their home? Horse I_008The Horse lamp is one of a three piece collection of animal furniture designed by Front which also includes a Rabbit Lamp and a Pig table.

Giddy up! With a lampshade on his head, the Moooi Horse Lamp (designed by Front) is a real party animal. Faithful to the dimensions and details of a full-sized horse, the Moooi Horse elicits no lukewarm response; Horse I_009you either fall in love at first sight or hate it forever. (We’re betting lon the former.)

Front started in 2003 by a design group of four. All members are involved in the design process from initial discussions and ideas to final product. Their works are based on common discussions, exploring and investigations about different topics. And the final products often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, conventions within the product field or the material it is made of.
